Recollecting 2012

its that time of the year to do a recollection of the year that just passed...

Is it me or did 2012 just zoomed by? Somehow I feel that this year passed exceptionally quick.. hmm.. wonder if that's a good or bad thing!

to me, 2012 was an ok year.. nothing too good but thankfully nothing too bad happened =)

well, here's the more memorable things that happened to me in 2012:

Christmas 2012

Belated Merry Christmas~

I love christmas! love the warm fuzzy feelings it gives me.. and the christmas carols.. and the PH day off.. lol

Usually, our JC clique Christmas gatherings are held at my house.. but this yr, cuz so many of them are new house owners, we decided to go to one of the newly weds' place for xmas gathering!

Somehow we chose YZ's place.. mainly cuz we've been to HP's and cuz YZ's house is more or less ready to welcome visitors =)

BUT! its dam far from my place la~ was a 30-40 mins drive from my place.. and the journey was all by expressways... haha

they placed their wedding board near their dining table.. so nice!

10th June 2012: Huaiwen's Wedding

Another super laggy blog post =X

They say, you build the closest friendships during secondary school days.. however, it had been different for me.. my closest friendships, at least those tt i still keep in contact with, were formed in my JC days..

and I was also extra lucky to have formed close ties during my Uni and uni hall days! still keep in contact with all these grps of friends even tho i've graduated for quite a while.. =)

Anyway, as i was saying, one of my closer grp of friends is my uni friends..  actually we are a rather small grp.. only 3 of us but sometimes we are joined by another girl and guy.. 1 of my friend is Yu shan, who is actually also my JC classmate! I still remember tt we bonded over F4 last time and she even helped us cut queue when we went for Zai zai's autograph signing session (ok, hide face.. haha)! anyway she was the only one frm my JC class who ended up in the same uni and course as me and we naturally stuck on to each other during our 1st sem in uni...

and we got to know another girl, Huaiwen, apparently cuz we needed to do proj in grps of 4 and Huaiwen approached us to do the IT proj tog (this is frm wat huaiwen recalls.. i have totally zero recollection of this.. haha)! and frm tt time onwards, we always do proj together when we can choose our own proj mates! and it also helps tt our surnames are soooo close to each other.. Khoo, Koh and Koo.. so for some projs, we are auto placed into the same grp.. haha.. ohhhh! and all 3 of us stay at serangoon area! like less than 5 mins away! sooo convenient for car pools (esp in our last sem when i was no longer staying in hall)!

Ok, to get to the pt of this blogpost, Huaiwen recently got hitched! Hers was a simple wedding affair tt was held at the function room at the National Library at bugis area..

The couple only invited abt 100 family + friends.. (but i think they held another separate banquet to pacify the relatives..) was happy to be invited to withness their union!

20th Oct 2012: Nuffnang's HP Topshot Tea Party~

First read abt this event on Yina's blog and decided to try my luck and registered for it.. I say "try my luck" because only 15 pple wld be picked to attend the event..

So was really delighted when Melissa from Nuffnang SG called me to inform me that I have been selected! =)

Some background abt the event first:
This event was held mainly to introduce HP's latest innovation - the HP Topshot LaserJet Pro M275. It is targeted at budding blogshop owners/ entrepreneurs to show them how this latest HP product is able to help make their life simplier (more abt this later..)~

As such, 3 bloggers-cum-entrepreneurs - Yina, Jessica and Velda also graced the event to share on how the HP Topshot Printer/Scanner has helped them in their daily blogshop operations...

Newpaper Big Walk 2012~

We decided to take part in the Newpaper Big Walk this year!

This yr, the fam (mainly my sis, her bf, chenda and me.. and wx) have been trying to go for regular walks weekly.. we normally go to Bishan/Ang Mo Kio Park and walk a round which is approx 2.6-2.7km.. it'd usually take me abt 30mins to complete the walk..

so, catching on to our walking "craze", sis and her bf suggested tt we take part in the Big Walk! I agreed and we decided to drag mum along for some much needed exercise..

:: 2nd September 2012, Sunday ::

Had to reach Clarke Quay's Central at 745am.. zzz..

headed out before 7am on a SUNDAY to take NEL..
decided not to drive cuz of the crowd + don't know to park at starting or ending pt.. haha

 reached Central!

look at the crowd!
mad hate.

 and off we go!

i really hate the starting pts of walks/marathon cuz its always so slow moving and crowded!
and this Big Walk, i don't understand why they must start at such a small area.. Plus, at the beginning of the walk, we had to walk thru an underpass.. pls la, sooo many pple and one tiny underpass, of course there's bound to be a jam! so, many of us walked over the underpass (by crossing the road) instead.. quite bad planning on this part..

the walk was frm Central at Clarke Quay and it was through Raffles Place and ended at Marina Barrage!

supposed to be 5km but I don't know why my Nike app registered 7 km... lousy..

yay! finished the walk!

was sooo dehydrated but thankfully they provided free H20! really felt much better after downing one pack of H20..

anyway, we decided not to join nxt yr alrdy... cuz its $20 ($18 aft grp disc) per pax and they didn't need to baracade the road or anything.. so basically, even if you don't pay, maybe you can also walk tog! and also, you can walk on your own another day when there's no crowd..

but the good thing was there was this bingo game along the way where you were suppose to collect bingo numbers as you walk (they had numbers placed all along the route).. and if you can cross out one row of numbers on your bingo card, you win prizes.. but none of us won anything! haha..

good workout nonetheless tho we packed back the calories burnt immediately by having old chang kee curry puff + artease milk tea (there was another carnival ongoing at Marina Barrage).. lol

Mum's 60th Birthday!

My posts are like all jumbled up in terms of sequence!

And I'm making it worst by posting this now.. haha.. but no choice cause this post is relatively shorter and hence easier to blog abt.. =)

:: 1st Oct 2012, Monday ::

Mum turned 60 on this day! This year, the celebration is much more low key, considering we already threw her a $2-3K chinese 60th birthday dinner last year! Plus its a weekday so we could only celebrate with her over dinner..

Asked mum to choose the dinner venue because she's the bday girl.. and she chose this Zi Char place at Serangoon Central cause she said it was recommended by her friend for good Zi Char food..

Pics of food first!

Sweet and sour pork which had a strong pork taste and was not crispy enough..
this is usually one of my fave Zi Char dish..

:: MacRitchie Reservoir ::

went for walks at MacRitchie Reservoir a few times recently.. been sooooo long since i've last been there! i remember the last time i went there was for my JC cross country.. remember tt me and my clique were too lazy to run tt we walked the whooleee way..naturally we were the last to reach the finish line.. lol

and how the place has changed! much more park-like now..

Manila & Boracay (18 to 23 Jun 2012): Part 2

time to continue blogging abt my manila/boracay holiday!

:: 19th June 2012, Tuesday::

After the dam scary flight, we thankfully landed at Caticlan in one piece!

As there is no airports in Boracay itself, we had to fly in to Caticlan then take a 15 min boat ride to Boracay..

The other option is to fly in to Kalibo and take a boat ride.. but if i'm not wrong, Caticlan is nearer..

still named as Boracay Airport.. i don't know why..

Karma?

For those who don't know, I'm a strong believer in karma.

I used to also believe in 報 (kindness begets kindness) but seeing how suay (unlucky) my life sometimes is, I've given up on this notion.

However, i still believe in karma. Esp if you do evil, it is bound to come back at you. Seen this happen in real life a few times! A stark incident i recall is my sister laughing at me for slipping/falling when i was in china (and she in singapore) and she fell the very same way the next day! Also heard of many similar incidents.

For those who don't know, earlier this yr (or late last yr?), I picked up a stranger's wallet when I went to Arab Street. The wallet was very simple looking  (more like a coin pouch) but there was $200+ dollars in it. It also had many cards in it, the most important of which was the I/C of the owner. I was of course very tempted to keep the money for myself. But thinking that I shouldn't be greedy, and afraid of karma plus knowing that the owner was probably very frantic over his loss, I decided to return the wallet in its entirety to the owner. Did this by using the money inside to courier it back to the owner the next day.

And the owner was very appreciative of the gesture. He insisted on giving us (i picked it up when i was with my aunt) 2 x $50 IKEA card even though we said it was alright (he was still a student after all).. we refused a few times but he was persistent and finally we accepted his good intentions.

Fast forward to this Tuesday (4th Sep 2012): I went to Cathay to catch the preview of Hope Springs (won the tix from a 8 days contest). When I reached home, i realised that my wallet was missing.. a search arnd my room and in the car did not yield anything and I can only conclude that I dropped it in the cinema when I was pulling my jacket out from my bag.

I was frantic. Afterall, I bought the wallet only in 21 Jul 2012 and it was my first branded goods purchase (not counting Coach and Kate Spade)! Those who know me knows that I have been wanting to buy a miu miu wallet/bag for the longest time but have always been unwilling to part with the insane amount of money for a single item (esp since buying in Singapore is more ex as compared to from Europe, but i'm not going there anytime soon).. I finally decided that this year I would splurge on a miu miu wallet, after all life is short and its like owning a miu miu item is something on my bucket list (lol)! So i bought it as my birthday present to myself this year.

I was hoping that maybe the cinema staff or the building staff had picked up my wallet. So, early the next day, i called both places but sadly both said they did not find any miu miu wallet. I then proceeeded to cancel all my credit cards (took me 1+ hrs cause I have credit cards from 7 different banks! gosh, i really need to cancel some..).. thankfully all the banks said that no one had used my cards yet. After work that day, I went to make a police report because my work identity card requires me to do so (if you know where i'm working, u'd know why. btw, for i/c and driving license, no need to make police report apparently). I was given a number to call to check i anyone has returned my identity cards but sadly, no one had.

Estimated cost of loss:

Miu miu wallet                               $750
Cash inside wallet                          $160
Vouchers inside wallet                     $30
Cost of replacement:
- I/C                                                $100
- Driving License                             $25
- Work identity card                         $50
ATM Cards replacement                   $5
                                                      $1,120_

Its been 3 days already and still no news! Right now, I only wish that the person who picked up my wallet would mail me back my identity cards. That's all I want now. Because these will cost money to replace and is also very troublesome to replace.

If you're wondering how Karma plays a part in this? Here's how: A radio station was giving away $1k for the best player this week for a word game (one player a day). This is a very popular radio station and I have never ever in my life called through during that time slot because of the sheer number of people listening to that radio show and when they give cash prizes, it is nearly impossible to call through. And guess what? I called through on Thursday. I somehow managed to do better than the past 3 day's contestant and thus was leading. It all boiled down to the contestant on Friday (today). I was hoping that a lousy contestant would call through and true enough, the contestant on Friday did not manage to get any of the words at all! I thus won the $1k (have not receive the prize yet tho)!

I really couldn't believe it. It's like I'm being repaid for what I have lost! I mean, I've never ever called through and just in the week where i have lost $1+k in cash and equivalents, I managed to call through and win. And not just any prize or amounts but exactly $1k!

I can't help but attribute this to Karma. I had returned back someone's lost cash and wallet and thus I'm also being returned my loss (tho not the exact wallet and items la, but who's complaining?)! Really really very thankful! Guess I'm lucky in this aspect =)

So to all out there, be careful of what you do.. because Karma really do strikes back and it bites back especially hard for those who do evil.

To all my friends who had offered words of consolation, I really thank you (you know who you are)! Really 患难见真情 (you know who your true friends are in times of difficulty)! *big hugs*

And to the person who picked up my wallet and not only do not bother to return but also never send back my important cards, I have only one word for you: KARMA!

R.I.P. my miu miu wallet! Tho I only enjoyed you for 1.5months, it was great owning you. Not sure if i'd ever wanna buy a branded wallet again... at least not now..

London 2012 Olympics: Memories~

yes, i've been hit quite badly by the Olympics fever! after all, it only happens once in 4 years, so i've been trying to watch all my fave sports (i.e. those i like to watch, not do, obviously), namely swimming, artistic gymnastics, diving and volleyball! and of cuz i've been watching table tennis also cuz Team Singapore has got a gd team there =)

but london being 7hrs behind SG is not really helping things.. =( oh well..

of cuz, watching sports also leads to scrutinising the atheletes competing in the sports! and i've come up with a list of pple i've found attractive or fascinating to watch!

here goes! will start with the guys!

::Guys::

my absolute favourite last time was Pieter van den Hoogenband from the Netherlands..

[Contest] Disney. Pixar's BRAVE!

yay! there's a new cartoon by Disney.Pixar that's coming to the cinemas soon - BRAVE!

I'm sucha fan of Disney.Pixar's cartoons! we all know that they are of such good quality. Think Monster Inc., Cars, UP... all were soooo good!

This time round, Disney.Pixar is bringing us BRAVE. For those who have not already heard of it (hard not to la, what with all the advertising that has already been going arnd!), here's a lil sypnosis:

***************************************************************************
MOVIE SYNOPSIS

Brave is a tale of the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) who confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson).

Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane).

Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.
***************************************************************************

Sounds good rite?

Don't like words? here's the movie trailer for those who prefer visuals:

Merida is sucha heroine! Makes me think of the heroine in my life - my mum!

Don't mean for it to sound cliche, but my mum has gotta be one of the most fearless women I know. She is afraid of almost nothing - being alone in the dark, driving in the rain, possible ghost sightings, cockcroaches, lizards etc etc... all of which her daughter (me sadly) is afraid of.. lol..

One incident that I can remember most vividly where she was SO brave was when there was a lizard that was in my cup! She could actually hold the cup with her bare hands and bring it outdoors to release the lizard.. Me? I didn't even dare go near the cup! Really thankful to have sucha fearless mum and my life would not be the same without her!

Got a heroine in your life too? Thank her by bringing her to catch Brave!

Catch Disney • Pixar’s BRAVE in cinemas this 8 August 2012 and like the Official Walt Disney Studios Singapore Facebook Page, follow the @disneystudiosSG and subscribe to Official Disney Studios Singapore YouTube Channel!

she had her solemnization outside the banquet room.. which had quite gd view! anyways, her solemnization was at 6+ and dinner banquet at 7+pm (eventually started 8+ so we felt like we've been there dam long alrdy.. haha)..

6th May 2012: Huiping's Special Day (Part 1)

one of my close frens got hitched early this month!

so happy for her, Huiping, from my JC clique~ She's the 2nd out of 7 of us to get married! there's 2 more weddings coming up from my JC clique this yr... so it's gonna be a bz yr for us! haha

i was abit scared of being Jie Mei again cuz from the past 2 experiences, I cldn't sleep the night before (due to anxiety from having to wake up dam early)!

So i planned ahead and decided to wake up early the day before (woke up at 9+am k! wanted to wake up at 8am but tt didn't happen as i slept at 2+am cuz mj ended at 1+am.. lol), so that i'd be sleepy tt night and will be able to fall asleep!

My plan worked! =) and i also was v happy i managed to nap in between the morning gate-crashing session and the dinner banquet..

anyway, enuff of me and more of the couple! the couple met each other @ NUS where both of them pursued an Architecture degree! I feel they are a v sweet couple and the guy is a v nice person! Can tell frm the various outings we had where he also tagged along.. and i'm v sure he will take good care of my friend.. so v happy for her!!

i'm gonna split this post into 2 cuz i got ALOT of photos to share!! so here's the first part..

Flower Fetish

yup i think i may have a flower fetish. a HUGE one!

i blame all the pretty flower prints that have been sprouting out in all the spring collections. From retail shops like h&m, topshop to blogshops!

i really love this yr's spring collections.. lace + flowers! soooooo pretty! but not healthy for my wallet =( plus, my closet's bursting!

and the flower fetish does not apply only to clothes alone loh..

i even bot a real flower! haha

cldn't resist buying this sunflower cuz it looked so pretty n cheery!
its a REAL flower k.
and cost $1.50.. pretty ok i feel

sad thing is tt it cld only last for 5-6 days.. =(

i also bot these fake sunflowers cuz they look so perfectly shaped!
and i love the colour..
$3 i think~

a flower beautifies a photo by bounds! haha

and i also couldn't resist buying this cotton on PJ shorts la!
i really love the floral prints on this one!
and i was really happy tt i cld fit into these cotton on shorts..
cuz when i tried abt 3 yrs ago, i cldn't fit into cotton on PJ shorts.. and i nv lose much wt frm 3 yrs ago..
so my conclusion is tt they upped their sizes... tt's gd news for me! heehee
2 for $30!

aiya, i'm sure u'll be seeing MUCH more flower/floral printed stuff on me in future posts.. lol (if u noticed, the previous posts also got floral printed stuff already!)

21.04.12: Sisi's Wedding

attended my friend's wedding last mth @ La Villa!

first time attending a friend's wedding dinner tt is NOT held at a hotel banquet room (not counting church wedding la)~

was rather excited cuz its an italian restaurant (love italian food!) and heard its a v pretty place!

and it was really pretty~

flowers at the reception table.. they were arranged in a heart shape!

unique "guest book" where the jie mei's helped u take a polaroid and you write ur wishes on it..
then they displayed it like this..
we were rather early so we cld place our photo in the frame like thingy.. heehee

outdoor seating for most of the guests cuz the restaurant not tt big..
but they set up a tent + it was quite cooling tt nite.. so still ok!

our table!

the solemnization was held right before the dinner, on the lawn area outside the restaurant..
here's the bride's father handing the bride over to the groom..

JP solemnizing the marriage..

the pretty setting..

yay, finally man and wife!

us girls on one side of the table..

and on the other side..
we are the earlier birds..

mr heng flew back from US esp for this wedding!
acting cute in this pic by posing with the candy floss!
there was a candy floss machine at the wedding n someone making candy floss for all the guests

this was also the first time i've attended a buffet style wedding!
its great tt we get to choose wat food we want and how much of each..
but then, cuz there were only 2 buffet stations, there was a long queue at each..
and dunno why the queue moved super slowly!

but then, the food was great~
and this was also the first wedding where there was an actual wedding cake which all the guest cld help themselves too!
the cake was delish too.. lychee alcohol flavour.. and the alcohol flavour wasn't tt strong so it was great to me =)

the couple also gave us each an ang bao with a 4d ticket inside..
the ang bao was hidden below our chair's cushion..
one of the xiong di asked us to check below our chairs and we found this!
the ticket was for tt nite's 4d draw and the xiong di read out the top 3 winning numbers..
but i think no one striked 4d tho.. haha..
but it was a novel idea.. loved it =)

don't have any pics of the bride and groom close up in my iphone.. only took with them with the prof photog's camera and those pics will prob won't be out for a LOOOONNGG time..

so i'll just post some of their wedding photos which they took in Germany which i took off FB.. heehee..

the pics are dam gorgeous la.. and so is the bride! she did her own hair and makeup cuz din haf any stylist and makeup artiste there with them.. lihai rite..
my fave pic is the 2nd one i've posted above..

if i ever get married, i also wan take wedding photos overseas... in european ctys if possible cuz of their beautiful architectures~

am gonna leave you with pics of my outfit tt day!

ASOS floral tube dress! super happy to have found this dress..
loving floral prints lately!

closer shot of the prints
(plus having good hair day tt day cuz i blow dried my hair.. haha)

2 more weddings to blog abt! esp the one yest where i was one of the jie meis!
